Web Space Charges
A running average of disk space use for each account is calculated daily. At the beginning of each month, email notification is sent to sponsors and contacts for accounts where the average disk space use is approaching the base disk space of 1 GB per account. These notifications are meant to help you manage your disk space use and plan for budget issues. Please send an email to IU Webmaster if you have questions about Web Service Billings.
Since disk space use is calculated as an average over the course of the fiscal year it may be important to note that peaks in your use over the base amount of 1 GB may result in a billing. Disk use billings are based on the average disk space used over the base at the time of billing.
Charges for Disk Space
Billing is based on your account's average use of disk space from the beginning of the fiscal year, July 1, through April 15. If an account is over the limit, the sponsor will be contacted to obtain current billing information. Any charges incurred will appear on your May Statement of Accounts.Determining Current Disk Average Usage
Please contact IU Webmaster for this information.
Determining Current Disk Space in Use
Follow these steps to learn how much disk space is in use. Remember, the resulting number is an actual one, not the average. From the account login directory on Webserve, enter the following at the command prompt:
du -sk
A number will be returned as Kilobytes. There are 1000 kilobytes in a megabyte. As example, 12326 equals 12.3 MB. Another example, 2785329 is close to 2780 MB.
Please keep in mind that the results of this command will not be the same as your "average" disk space use. All billing will be based on your average disk space used during the fiscal year.
