Linux Server Testing

The following notice was sent to owners/contacts of Veritas and Champion accounts on Monday, March 3, 2008.

Colleagues,

It is our pleasure to announce the next phase of the central web migration.

The current web environment has been recreated on the new Linux servers with great attention to detail.

We are ready to begin testing all Veritas and Champion web server accounts on the new Linux-based web server environment.

We strongly encourage you to take the time to test all aspects of your IU web site in the Linux environment. For the next two weeks, a testing phase will allow all web site owners to test their new Linux web site and provide feedback if problems are discovered. Your production web site will continue to function normally during this phase.

Please help us to ensure the new web server environment is configured correctly to support your web site. After this two week testing phase, you will be asked to permanently migrate your web server account to this new environment.

We have created a duplicate copy of your account on the new Linux servers. All files in your existing account have been copied to this new environment and are updated nightly. You will decide when you are ready to complete this migration process after this testing phase. All accounts must be permanently migrated by the end of April 2008.

Documentation describing this new environment, including information about testing, is available at http://webmaster.iu.edu/migration. Please pay special attention to the general "Migration Overview" section on this page and the "Migration Checklist" link before actually testing your site in the new Linux environment.

After completion of the testing phase, we will contact you again to announce the beginning of the permanent account migration to the new Linux environment.

If you have questions or comments about this process, please contact IU Webmaster

We thank you for your help in testing this new environment.
